NEET-PG 2024 Exam Likely in July, Counseling in August: According to sources

New Delhi: According to sources, the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Post Graduate (NEET-PG) 2024 exam is expected to be conducted. Counseling is likely to take place in the first week of August, following the exam in the first week of July. It has also been mentioned that the National Exit Test (NEXT) will not be conducted this year. The NEET-PG exam is anticipated to be held in the first week of July.

A source stated that counseling is likely to commence in the first week of August. Recently notified as per the "Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023," which supersedes the Postgraduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2018, the NEET-PG exam will continue until the proposed NEXT (National Exit Test) is implemented.

NEET-PG is a qualification-based ranking exam mandated for admission to various MD/MS and PG Diploma courses under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.

What is NEXT or the National Exit Test?

The National Exit Test (NEXT), which aimed to streamline medical licensing and admissions, is currently on hold in India. NEXT was intended to replace both NEET-PG and FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) for foreign medical graduates seeking admission to postgraduate medical studies. Despite the potential benefits such as standardizing assessments and improving practical skills, the implementation of NEXT has been delayed. NEET-PG continues to serve as the gateway for postgraduate medical education in India.
