The condition of the drivers in Telangana state is becoming such that no matter how many challans they are issued and how many fines are imposed, they do not take the name of stopping traffic violations. According to the data of 2023, the average number of traffic violations every hour in the state was 1,731. With the increase in technology, it has become easier to identify and punish traffic violators.
The number of cases is increasing. Last year, 1,51,63,986 cases of traffic violation were registered in the state and a fine of Rs 519 crore was imposed for these. This means that on an average 41,544 traffic violation cases are being registered every day and fines up to Rs 1.42 crore are being imposed. This is not a normal thing.
The main objective behind imposing fines is to create awareness and accountability among the violators. But despite this they are ready to pay the fine, but are not following the traffic rules. The traffic problem in the state capital is becoming acute. As the number of vehicles is increasing, traffic problems are increasing in small and big cities of the state.
To solve these problems, along with creation of infrastructure, proper supervision is also required. Problems arise when vehicles stop anywhere on the road. The problems increase due to violations like vehicles coming from the opposite direction on a one-way road and vehicles proceeding despite red signals. Even if one person out of a hundred does not follow the rules, it impacts the rest.
Even if a single person stops a vehicle on a road during rush hour, traffic on that road will stop. That is why the traffic police register cases against those who violate the rules. Cases are also registered through CCTV cameras. Fines are imposed depending on the violation. If these are not paid, the vehicles are confiscated. However, even after this, violations are not being avoided.
